Please note this is not an official MNPS website. We work in collaboration with MNPS but are a separate parent-led entity.

PAC Purpose

The purpose of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is to increase communication, ensure effective involvement of all parents and caregivers in Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) and support partnerships between school-community stakeholders (community organizations, MNPS administration and staff).

Our mission is to engage in transparent and reciprocal communication with MNPS families/caregivers, staff and stakeholders.

Our vision: Every parent/caregiver in the MNPS community is known.

PAC Structure (Proposed)

The PAC will exist at the cluster level and the district level as follows:
  • Every school will select 2 PAC representatives (see "Selecting a PAC Representative")
  • The 2 PAC representatives from each school in a cluster are the members of a “Cluster PAC”
    • Includes 12 geographic clusters, a Magnet PAC, and a Charter PAC
  • Each Cluster PAC elects 3 representatives to serve in the “District PAC” (42 people total)
    • Ideally 1 representative each from an elementary, middle and high school
  • The District PAC elects a Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary
  • The PAC will essentially meet monthly alternating between Cluster and District meetings
  • The first meeting of the school year is designated as a district-wide meeting/celebration for all PAC members

PAC Attributes

By design, the PAC is:  a) parent-run, with support as needed from the district;  b) facilitates strong communication and feedback loops to help nurture parent engagement, and c) supports collaboration across schools in a cluster, and clusters in the district

Selecting a PAC Representative

Each year the school's principal (and other administrators) must select 2 parents or guardians to serve as PAC representatives for the school, using these principles:
  • All MNPS parents and guardians are eligible to be a school representative
  • Parents engaged in the school’s School Improvement Plan ("SIP") may be a natural fit for PAC service
  • School Support Organizations (SSOs) should used as resources for recommendations. However, due to the time commitment and a distinct  focus of PAC, we encourage identifying and selecting non-SSO leadership as PAC school representatives when possible

 PAC Time Commitment (Estimate)

School PAC representatives:  ~3-4 hours/month
  • Attend four (4) cluster PAC meeting on alternating months throughout the school year (meetings last ~1-2 hrs)
  • Additional time needed would be as follow up from meetings. (~1-2 hrs/month)
  • Report to school’s administration and SSO regarding PAC activities  (~1 hr/month)
If elected as Cluster PAC leaders:  ~4-5 hours/month
  • Plan, promote and lead four (4) cluster PAC meeting on alternating months throughout the school year (meetings last ~1 – 2 hrs)
  • Attend district PAC meetings on alternating months (each lasting ~2 hrs)
  • Additional time needed would be as follow up from meetings. (~1-2 hrs/month)
If elected as District PAC leaders:  ~6-8 hours/month
  • Attend four (4) District PAC meetings on alternating months (each lasting ~2 hrs)
  • Attend cluster PAC meetings as outlined above (~2 hrs every other month)
  • Additional work would be as follow up from meetings. (~1-2 hrs/month)
